There are few things in life that I enjoy more than reading. A good book will entertain you while you while you read it, while a great book will captivate you as you read it and for years afterward.
My goal is always to read more, so when someone suggests a reading contest, I am game.
That is exactly what Jon Acuff did on December 23rd of this year. He introduced the #EmptyShelf challenge. It’s pretty basic: starting December 23rd, you empty one shelf of a bookcase in your house completely. Then, through the entire next year, you fill that shelf with the books that you read.
Here’s my shelf as of December 24th, 2013:
I’ve already got a few books to add to it:
So far I’ve read:
1.) Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) (It was an ebook, so Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje is it’s placeholder)
2.) Bread & Wine: A Love Letter to Life Around the Table with Recipes by Shauna Niequist
3.) Winter’s Bone: A Novel by Daniel Woodrell (I wrote a review here)
4.) Gazelles, Baby Steps and 37 Other Things Dave Ramsey Taught Me about Debt by Jon Acuff
Looking forward to adding more each week! I’m hoping to read more nonfiction in 2014, and I think I am off to a good start.
What books are on your list to read this year?
Catch up with what I’ve been reading! Here’s January 2014.
